The General House meeting of Swami Vivekanand Study Circle, Bathinda discussed the topic “Anna Hazare—The beginning to end corruption”.
All the members held the view that the recent rise of Anna Hazare is a good development to organise the civil society to stand against the menace of corruption. The efforts of civil society should not only continue with more rigour and vigour on national level but it must also trickle down to the district level. The role of the media and press is specially appreciated to making it a national movement.
It is also felt that corruption has divided the society into two categories: i) Victims of corruption; and ii) Beneficiaries of corruption. Generally first category is advised to check the menace of corruption, whereas second category is responsible for corruption and living in society with power, honour and liberty. As a result, the second category has become so powerful that there has become competition in corruption. These beneficiaries of corruption have made a system in which they protect each other. Anna Hazare’s movement is a beginning to empower the victims of corruption so that they should have a voice through a strong Lokpal. For making the voice louder, the unity of the people is required. Recently, the efforts are made to sabotage this movement by some people. The people of the civil society must be aware of this.
It is also observed that Corporate Sector is messing power in India over the years by maneuvering politicians for their own interest. This sector is defacto running the government. The regime of corruption suits them the most. Anna Hazare is a catalyst factor for building the movement against corruption. We should contribute to make this movement stronger because the fight against corruption has begun to end it.
